I’ll just say it

I really find it hard to understand why people still care about Jerry Lawler. It’s not even because I’m a Cole fan, because don’t get me wrong, Cole can be extremely obnoxious. The thing is, at least Cole can set aside his jokes when it’s time for a big match situation. (See: Money in the Bank 2011, or both Chamber matches on Sunday.) Cole can call a match when he puts his mind to it and doesn’t spend the time trying to put himself over. As for King, most of the time he sits there like a bump on the log showing absolutely no interest in anything that’s going on. He has zero enthusiasm. It’s obvious that King hasn’t given a shit about the product for years. People often make the argument that he sounds better when with JR, but that’s only because Jim Ross is good at MAKING King sound good. Jim Ross is God tier, if we can be honest.

As an example, during the Chamber, Cole asked what Punk’s strategy should be since he’ll be first in the Chamber with Kofi, which King didn’t name a any form of strategy, just explaining that Punk should use what he knows. Having King on the commentary booth really doesn’t add any sort of insight. With Cole, he doesn’t agree with Daniel Bryan as far as the vegan lifestyle, but he takes time to give credit to Bryan when he makes a good point, or for the fact that he’s doing what a heel should do, and take any way possible to win a match. With King, he barely gives a credit to a heel (See: Ziggler and Guerrero), and will continue to sit there and ride the cock of John Cena.

Like I mentioned, Cole can be over the top. He does get out of hand when he puts himself over some of the younger talent, and he does plug Twitter entirely too much (though that’s his job). Also, I’m not taking anything away from Jerry Lawler as a competitor, because the man ruled the better part of the South for nearly 30 years, and he’s still going strong in the ring. I’m just sick of him as a commentator, and I assume the same argument can be made against Cole.
